Welcome to the Canvas 7 Electronic Software Distribution Evaluation version! This document contains information about installing and trying out Canvas 7.
To install a time-limited full-featured version of Canvas 7 for evaluation, you need an evaluation serial number. After entering an evaluation serial number during installation, you will be able to use the full-featured Canvas 7 Evaluation version for 15 days. This version expires at the end of the 15-day evaluation period.
If you need to obtain an evaluation serial number for Canvas 7, please go to the evaluation web page at http://www.deneba.com/evaluate.
Note: If you cannot obtain an evaluation serial number, you can run this version of Canvas in "demonstration" mode by installing it without entering an evaluation serial number during installation. In demonstration mode, Canvas will not save or export documents, and printed documents will have a "Canvas" banner on each page. Also, if Canvas has been installed in demonstration mode, you cannot convert the demonstration version to a full working version if you later purchase a Canvas 7 license on-line.
System requirements
Please be sure that your system meets the following minimum requirements for running Canvas:
• Power PC™ processor
• System 8.5 or later
• 32 MB RAM available to Canvas
• 80 MB free hard disk space
• 16-bit color or higher
• 800 x 600 or higher screen resolution
Installing Canvas
1. Before installation, quit any running applications.
• To install the evaluation version from an evaluation CD-ROM, double-click the Canvas™ 7 Install icon.
• To install after downloading the evaluation version, double-click the downloaded archive file to extract the Canvas folder. Then, double-click the Canvas™ 7 Install icon.
2. When the startup screen appears, click Continue. Then, read the license agreement and click Accept to indicate your acceptance of the terms of the license agreement.
3. The installation dialog box displays instructions and options for you to select.
• You can select a location for installing Canvas by clicking Select Folder or Switch Disk.
• The recommended Easy Install option is selected. Choose Custom Install if you want to select items to install.
After you make your selections, click Install to begin installation.
4. The personalization dialog box appears. Enter your name and organization in the text boxes. In the Serial box, enter the evaluation serial number you received from Deneba if you want to install the full-featured evaluation version. Click OK to continue.
5. During installation, a message asks you to choose color presets for Canvas 7. For more information, see "Choosing a default color system" below.
To run Canvas 7, double-click the Canvas™ 7 program icon.
When you run Canvas 7, a startup screen tells you the number of days remaining in the evaluation period. Click Continue to use Canvas 7 during the evaluation period.
Purchasing Canvas
If you would like to purchase Canvas, click Buy on the startup screen to go to the on-line Canvas Store (Internet connection required). You can purchase a license and receive an Canvas 7 activation code number at the Canvas Store.
When you obtain an activation code number, you can convert the installed Evaluation version into a full working copy of Canvas. To do this, click the Activate button on the evaluation startup screen, and then follow the instructions in the activation dialog box.
Choosing a default color system
During installation, you are asked to choose color presets, based on your typical work. You can choose RGB or CMYK color presets. The dialog box explains typical uses for these types of colors.
The color system you choose determines which inks Canvas loads into the Inks palette, and applies to colors in the Strokes palette, the Color Dropper mode, and the default printer calibration setting. Your choice of color presets does not limit your ability to use any color system that Canvas supports. You can choose either color option during installation, and then change color systems in Canvas at any time.
Learning more about Canvas
The Evaluation version includes a special electronic edition of the Getting Started Guide for Canvas. The guide is a PDF (portable document) which is installed with the Canvas 7 Evaluation version. You can view this document in Acrobat Reader.
The Getting Started Guide provides an overview of Canvas, with a series of tutorials that introduce many new Canvas features. Canvas files that are used in the tutorials are located in the Tutorial folder.
Getting help
While you use Canvas, you can get help with all its tools and features from the on-line Help system. To display Help, choose Contents in the Help menu or in the Guide menu (under the question mark).
